Git is the industry standard choice in software engineering for version control.
Created by Linus Torvalds for development of the Linux Kernel project, git’s distributed version control design solves the problems of centralized systems (such as CVS and Subversion). Popularised by github.com for storing and sharing Open Source code, it has become defacto standard, whilst other tools such as Mercurial have become less popular over time.
For using any of the Infrastructure as Code tooling in Jenkins, Ansible or Terraform, you will need to become a git expert. But fear not! Our recommended courses will make learning git as easy as can be.
